This scholarship is to recognize and encourage the continued educational pursuits of an outstanding young woman of Wallowa County committed to achieving a college, vocational or technical education and who demonstrates potential to be successful in her future career path. Applicants may have already won an earlier Soroptimist scholarship. Applications must be received by June 30th.

$1,000 to $5,000 LARGE GRANTS

Large Grants are awarded once a year for community projects. These grants support local community projects that would have "significant impacts" in Wallowa County.   The grant should meet the Soroptimist mission: Improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. 

Criteria for Application:  1) Contributions will be made only to projects in Wallowa County;  2) Awards will be made in support of health, education, environment, and the advancement of the status of women and children for the betterment of the community;  3)  A project budget is requested and   4)  Preference will be given to projects of program delivery.  Projects including administrative and/or operating expenses will be considered, while awards to individuals will be excluded. 

Awards will be made based upon the availability of funds and needs assessment.  Award requests can range from $1,000 to $5,000.  Awards may be made to more than one recipient.

Deadline for applying is March 15th.   Applications are available at The Bookloft, Wallowa Public Library,  BeeCrowBee or the Soroptmist Thrift Shop.

The Fellowship Award is presented to a woman who is continuing her education with a post graduate (Master's or PhD) program.  The Award will be paid in its entirely to the college or university the recipient attends.  

The Fellowship Award will be awarded to any women who:  1) resides in Wallowa County;   2)  established in business or a profession;  3)  conducts her business or practices her profession competently and according to ethical standards;  4)  holds a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university;  5)  presents a plan of worthwhile post graduate study at an accredited college or university leading to an advanced degree or to enhance standing or competence in her business or profession; and  6)  provides such other information as the Fellowship Committee may deem necessary.

Every year we present a cash award to a woman with financial need and who has primary responsibility for herself or family.  She must be attending an undergraduate degree program or a vocational skills training program.  This award is given directly to the winner to be used for books, babysitting, school travel, etc.
